When we are starting something new, such as a vegan diet and lifestyle, it’s super important to understand some basic definitions. So, the first step in starting a vegan journey is to understand “What Is Veganism”, so let’s get started…

Sometimes there is a bit of confusion on the topic and definition of veganism. Some people confuse veganism with vegetarianism. Others confuse veganism with plant-based. 

To get started on your vegan journey, it is important to understand what veganism is so that it is clear what your direction is on this beautiful journey. 

By having clarity on the definition of veganism, you can also help others who might experience some confusion. 

Veganism is a lifestyle (not only a diet) with a scope that touches all aspects of our daily habits and practices. Here is a great summary of the definition of veganism that is very helpful when there are doubts.

"Veganism is a philosophy and way of living which seeks to exclude—as far as is possible and practicable—all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose; and by extension, promotes the development and use of animal-free alternatives for the benefit of animals, humans and the environment. In dietary terms it denotes the practice of dispensing with all products derived wholly or partly from animals." - The Vegan Society
