The End or the Beginning?
In March 2020, a week after I returned from a five-city trip, the world was put into a lockdown that would last for more than one year.
Returning from such a long trip, with plans to resume traveling in short order, was a bit of a shock since this was the first time in our era that such a global lockdown occurred.
At first, I thought that the global lockdown would be temporary; perhaps a couple of weeks or months...
Then the days extended to weeks and then to month after month after month.
I started to feel confused and in deep need of stillness as the world seemed to be spiraling out of control right before everyone's very eyes.
In some ways, due to fear of "catching it" and the limitations placed upon where we "should" and "should not" go, my day-to-day routine was limited to some combination of going to the supermarket and talking a walk in the fresh air and sunshine for exercise and a change of scenery.
This translated into more time indoors and a strict pause on my travel plans.
It was fascinating to feel the shift of the deepening of my consciousness during my meditation practice. As if I had been given a pass to enter parts of myself that I had previously not explored. Parts of myself that I had previously ignored. Parts of myself that I had previously been ignorant of their very existence, much less their deep importance and significance in my ability to truly know myself better.
Was the global lockdown the end of my global exploration through travel? Or was the global lockdown just the beginning of a new type of exploration; this time consisting of the journey within?
How has the global lockdown been for you?
Stay tuned for another blog post next week in which I’ll share more about my inner meditation journey discoveries.
